'tis the season, y'all! Football practice starts next week! And first football games are happening at the end of the month!! I love this time of year!

These are the local (Lago Vista ISD and Leander ISD) Homecoming dates for 2015:

• Leander HS September 11, deadline to order is Sep 18
• Lago Vista HS September 25, deadline to order is Sep 15
• Rouse HS September 25, deadline to order is Sep 15
• Vista Ridge HS September 25, deadline to order is Sep 15
• Cedar Park HS October 9, deadline to order is September 29
• Vandegrift HS October 23, deadline to order is Oct 13

IF you do not see your school listed, please contact me, I would love to add your school and create a mum just for you! 

Please get your orders in early! But pay attention to the deadlines. If you order after your school's deadline, it's ok, but there will be a rush order fee added. 

What Size Mum To Order?

This month, I had the great pleasure of explaining homecoming mums to a young family that had recently moved to Texas. And while I think that looking in from the outside, mums seem a little crazy, this family thought it was such a fun thing and couldn't wait to participate! 

But where to start? How do you know which size to get? There are a few not-written-in-stone guidelines that I shared with the new Texans that I will share with you. Maybe you grew up here, but you're my age and when you were in high school, mums were an actual flower, with some spirit ribbons. And now, you've Googled "homecoming mum" and you were met with pictures of way over-the-top craft store nightmares. But once you've weeded through the one-off gigantor mums, you notice a sort of general size offering. 

This post is to help anyone that is new to our special Texas high school homecoming tradition.

The single-flower mum is generally for freshmen, or even a middle schooler. They are usually in school colors. Beyond that, anything truly goes, you can add all sorts of trinkets and bells and even whistles, if you like.

The double flower mum, also in school colors is perfect for the sophomore. 

Triples in school colors are for juniors. The junior mum that I did last year was hot pink and black. 

And finally, the senior quad mum, is white and either silver or gold. I do offer the quad in school colors if you prefer (or if you're not a senior.) The white mum, regardless of size, is really the only "rule" that I'd stick to. 

And what about garters? The rules are a little less clear when you are talking about a guy that probably is not terribly excited about wearing flowers on his arm. I create garters in two sizes, singles for lower classmen and triples for upper classmen. White and silver or gold for seniors only. 

NEW Product for Mums and Garters

My son and his long-time girl friend are both runners, and she is also a State Powerlifter. Try finding stock homecoming products for those. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Running shoes from the scrapbook department at a craft store and the medal from party city. I glittered it, of course. 

When shopping the mum supply vendors this year, I came across this oval medallion and these stickers. Sure, we could just slap a Cross Country sticker on a medallion and glue it to a chain and call it a day. And I'll do that if you want. But what if we bling it out?!

Dressed up and Ready for Homecoming!

A homecoming mum or garter is more than a big flower that you wear for school spirit, it is like a scrapbook that you wear! It reflects who you are, right now, what you like, and what you do.

Every Central Texas Spirit Wear homecoming mum comes with a bear that has a bow around it's neck. Bears are not included in the price of a classic garter, but they can sure be added!

A special add-on that you might like, is a bear that is dressed in a cute outfit. The outfit can be a sport or activity uniform, or just a pretty princess. Cute New Chain!

Hands down, the very best part of being part of Mums, Inc are the amazing creative brains I get to pick on a daily basis. I truly want to do it ALL. 

I am adding this Multi Loop Chain to the 3-D braid add-ons. 

It adds a lot of volume and is so cute to look at! 

Mum chains will be 30" long and garter chains will be 15" long. 

Here is a triple garter with the chain already added. 

Custom Lettering for Your Homecoming Mum or Garter

Last year, when I was making the girlfriend mums, I decided that I wanted something unique for the lettering. In the homecoming mum area of the craft stores, there were two choices, square, or slightly less square. Oh wait, make that four choices, because each style came in silver or gold. And they were expensive at almost a dollar for three sticker letters, making the cost of one, nearly $18.  

I decided to scour the aisles of the craft store, looking for just the right letters. I had decided on a varsity font for the freshman mum I was making. Sadly, the one that I pined for, was not on sale and did not go on sale for a while. I had to wait for the sale because I had to buy THREE packets of letters to get all the letters that I needed, at $5 a packet. But I persevered, watching the ad until they went on sale. 

Fortunately, for you, that is a thing of the past. I have the ability to create letters in almost any font, in any material. Glitter in any color, metallic, prints, burlap(!)... the sky really is the limit! And I can adjust the size of the font to have GIANT letters if that's what your heart desires!
